Churches


There are three churches in Lardal. Every parish has its own church.  

Hem Church

  • Dated to 1392. Possibly older.
  • Celebrated the 600-year anniversary in 1992.
  • Long Church of the bricked stone.
  • In private ownership until 1913, when it was transferred to the church without compensation.

Styrvoll Church

  • Probably built in the period 1150 - 1200.
  • Celebrated the 880-year anniversary in 1975.
  • Long church built of stone in round arched style.
  • Altarpiece from about 1665. Probably the same artist who in Svarstad church.
  • The organ from 1925 is provided by Jørgensen organ factory. 


Svarstad Church

  • Built in 1657.
  • Long Church built of rough lumber.
  • The first church probably built just before the year 1200.
  • Altarpiece from 1664 New porch and tower built in 1866-67.
  • Restored in 1997.
  • Organ 1980. Set up by Nils Hammar Berg from Gothenburg.
  • Mechanical organ loop charge with 14 votes and 2 manuals.
